Let me start by giving you a little background on me. My name is Ben. I purchase and resell used cars for a living. So finding affordable used cars for me is more than a once every couple of years thing. I pretty much do this daily. I do it a little different than most people but I apply all the techniques below to get used cars fo the lowest prices possible. I promise you if you follow the steps below you will find an affordable used car. I typically get anywhere from 60 to 90% off the used cars I buy. And it does matter if it is a Lexus, Mercedes, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Nissan, Chevy, Jeep or any other popular brand. I get them cheap. And I want to teach you how to get them cheap as well.
You can simply purchase one vehicle with the methods I teach you below, or you can turn an extreme profit out of it. I sell affordable used cars to people who are typically in need of a discounted vehicle. When I purchase a used car for 80% off the book price, I can sell it to them for 50% off the book price and still make a great profit! Lets crunch some numbers for you. I will show you my last vehicle purchase and resell for you.
The 2007 Honda Accord pictured below was a great purchase for me. It was just like most Honda Cars. It was a Special Edition Sedan It was 2wd and had an automatic transmission. Here is the special part, this car ran like a charm and only had 14,971 miles. The CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) price for this Honda according to KBB (Kelley Blue Book) is $16,000. We were able to purchase this Honda for 73% off the CPO price. We got our hands on it for $4320. I always mark up a used car I personally sell by 70% which is $7344. So the person that bought this Honda bought a car valued at $16,000 for only $7344. They saved $8656, everyone wins. I make 70% profit on my mark up and they save huge on the used Honda Accord. It just makes sense. Now, keep reading to see my exact methods for buying affordable used cars!

#1. Affordable Used Cars: Patience
I want to start by saying how important it is for you to have patience. I have a little less patience because I have money constantly rolling in and this is my only source of income. So to make money I need to spend money. For someone who is looking to buy one affordable used car or are looking to just make an extra side income every month you need to be patient. If you see something nice but the price isn’t right get away from it. If you are patient in the used car business good things will come. Do not jump at the first “great deal” because the deal WILL get greater. Now that we have patience out of the way let me show you my little gem. The way I purchase affordable used cars for up to 90% off the KBB price.
#2. Affordable Used Cars: Car Auctions
Car auctions are my best friend. The really cool thing about them is they are everywhere. They are rarely advertised and typically do not have many people at them. It’s truly an adrenaline rush to go to an auction. About 80% of the auctions I go to I come out with a used car I could not refuse to buy. There are so many amazing car deals at these auctions I really have no idea how they stay so low key. But they do. And at the risk of saturating the market I am sharing this information with you. Why? Because Ihave my connections I can get affordable used cars pretty much whenever I want now. Im in a very good place and I feel like sharing this information with the world.
Alright now I have only shared with you half the secret. These affordable used car auctions are not easy to find. The company that guides me has been doing it for over 4 years now. And I decided that I would share that with you too. They do charge a little money to show you where all these auctions are but I promise you will laugh at the fee in comparison to what you are going to save on your next used car purchase. #3. Affordable Used Cars: Craigslist
Craigslist may be how you came to my page which in turn is showing you how to buy a car cheap what I am sending you back. Pretty ironic huh? Well when you apply the first way on here with craigslist good things usually happen. I have bought affordable used cars deals on craigslist that were too good to pass up. I bought a 2008 Toyota 4Runner with only 35K miles for only $10K. Don’t get me wrong, you will not find auction prices on Craigslist but you can find good deals. The gentleman who was selling the Toyota 4Runner was actually listingg it for $9,000 and I offered $10,000 to seal the deal. I was able to sell that same Toyota 4Runner for $15K. He was desperate for some money to pay on his mortgage to keep his home. So if you combine patience with craigslist I promise you good deals will come. Never as good as the auction site deals I showed you above but a decent alternative.
#4. Affordable Used Cars: Get A Mechanic
Find a mechanic that is willing to go out and test drive the used cars along with you. Tell the mechanic it is important for him to point out all the used cars flaws. He almost wants to make it seem like its not worth to buy. I always take a mechanic with me for the test drive. Anything that is old or needs replaced he points out. Once he does this its very easy to negotiate the price. Please don’t ask the mechanic to lie, that would be a scam. Just tell him to be real nit picky. Point out every flaw and anything that may need replaced under the hood. Even if it is little things they will help to make the seller more willing to lower the price.
#5. Affordable Used Cars: Be Calm
Never let the dealer or personal owner of a car know you are really interested. Always seem like being there is kind of wasting your time. Once they see how you act toward that used car they will be more willing to lower the price. Make them understand by your actions that there is no way you are paying that price for that car. If you combine this one with the mechanic, you will get an affordable used car.
#6. Affordable Used Cars:Know The Lingo
Talk the talk. This simply means knowing sufficient car lingo. This gives the salesperson or personal seller the perception that you are in the know, that you have lots of experience and contacts within the auto industry and that you could probably purchase the same car they are offering you at a lower price in another place. It’s basically like turning on an alert signal that makes the salesperson think, “Hey, she’s one of us. She knows if I’m offering a good price or not.” Yes, all that just by using the correct terminology. With that kind of positive perception working for you, the salesperson would tend to make more of an effort to convince you to buy in their store, usually resulting in them offering to sell at a lower price.
#7 Affordable Used Cars: Don’t Talk Prices
This one is mainly if you are buying from a dealer. You would have to be crazy to buy from a dealer because you WILL pay too much. But I know thats the only way some people will do it.
Don’t talk about prices outright. If the salesperson asks you right away about what your budget is, don’t answer him at that point. One reason for this is that once you have established your price range, you might get a tendency to get stuck there and get a lower chance of acquiring an even better deal. This is especially detrimental if you haven’t researched the going rate for the model you’re eyeing and you have just quoted, say, a budget you established offhand.
#8. Affordable Used Cars: Be The Expert
If you have a certain kind of car in mind do your research. You want a Toyota Camry? Get on the net and find the year and study it. You want a Mercedes GL450? Get on the internet and research it. If you are an expert on that used car the seller or salesmen will respect you more. If you come in there and know nothing about cars the salesman or seller smell blood. They will be all over you. BE AN EXPERT!
#9. Affordable Used Cars: Avoid Dealerships
I promise you if you buy from a dealership you will pay too much. You can ALWAYS find a better deal through auctions or private owners. But if your going to buy from a private owner you need to bring or have a good mechanic look at it. This is very important. If you do not do this you could get burned, most private sellers will sell car “as is” with no returns. But if you bring or take the car to a trusted mechanic you lower your chances of getting burned.
#10. Affordable Used Cars: Apply All Tips
Don’t stick to one method. Combine all of them. Know this list and use this list. Honestly if you just buy from auctions you can avoid all this hassel. You can get affordable used cars left and right. If you refuse to do auctions which some crazy people do combine all my tips on here. Study them, know them then apply them. I promise you, you will earn more respect and get a lower price on your next used car purchase. It doesn’t mattter if you are buying a Lexus, Mercedes, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Nissan, Chevy, Jeep or Dodge.
I wish you all good luck and I hope you find the best affordable used cars out there!
